For all the last minute packing and getting things ready we were still able to get to bed at a decent hour last night, get up early and be on the road at 5:29 a.m. (a minute earlier than the original plan).
With our coffee cups full and scones for the road, we were off heading down the Columbia River Gorge. What a beautiful drive this morning ... the river was as calm as glass and the sunrise was beautiful. Added benefit ... not much traffic even though we were on I-84 for today's travel! Just east of The Dalles, Oregon there was a HUGE herd of Bighorn Sheep right by the highway ... I wish I would have had my camera ready. We've seen them before but in small herds and way up on the hillsides.
We made a couple of stops along the way and still made it to Jerome, Idaho in time to go for a nice walk plus a bit of Geocaching. There isn't much in this area for food so we drove a few miles into Twin Falls for dinner. Got back from dinner early so Janiece went down to the Fitness Center and hit the treadmill for awhile and Garey did some "map checking" for tomorrow's travels.
Tomorrow we will be heading as far as Grand Junction, Colorado with much of our trip being off the interstate. Looking forward to another beautiful day and more adventures.
I finally finished packing ... the car is ready, scones are baked (it will be Saturday when we leave after all) and all we have to do in the morning is make the coffee, throw a few things in the ice chest and we're off on another adventure.
Our travels won't be quite as leisurely this time since we have three major family events three weekends in a row (fortunately it works well for a road trip!).
We're looking forward to seeing two of my sisters as we travel to go to our grandson, Noah's graduation from Army Reserve Basic Training in Missouri. Following that we will head to Nebraska to celebrate our granddaughter, Dayna's, tenth birthday. We'll spend about 10 days in Nebraska before returning home via Nampa, Idaho to celebrate granddaughter, Krista's, graduation from Northwest Nazarene College.
We'll be going on a few roads we haven't traveled before and hope to still do most our travels off the Interstate.
Since it's our custom to leave early enough to watch the sunrise our first morning we'll be leaving home at oh-dark-thirty, building more memories along the way!
